Nearly 30 people represented GCDC in Glassboro’s Memorial Day Parade May 28.
The group walked through town and past the V.F.W. Memorial on High Street, distributing
American flags and mingling with the crowd. Thanks to everyone who made the day a success!
DX Dance Express in Deptford partnered with the Glassboro Child Development Centers,
to host a “Dancing For The Cure” event May 29 at the Dorothy L. Bullock School in Glassboro.
An enthusiastic crowd watched more than 25 ensemble members from the award-winning
dance studio, located at 1341 Delsea Drive, perform the company’s full recital.
The Pacific Island Dancers, based in Southern New Jersey, also performed several dance numbers.
There were more than 25 silent auction items created by Joan Williams, who works for GCDC
and DX Dance Express. DX Dance Express is owned and operated by GCDC Alumnae and NJ After
3 Glassboro Intermediate School Teen Academy Co-Supervisor Niki Williams. Nearly $900 was
raised for the Dancer’s Care Foundation for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research.
Approximately 50 people attended a Post Memorial Day Barbeque May 30 for GCDC’s S.M.A.S.H.
(Start Moving And Stay Healthy) program at Robert Renlund Memorial Park. We strongly encourage
GCDC families and the Glassboro community to join S.M.A.S.H. Take a leisurely one-mile walk
on Mondays and Wednesdays between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Restrooms and light refreshments
are available. S.M.A.S.H. is made possible by General Mills Community Grants.
Thanks to everyone who participated in our Uncle Jerry’s T-shirt and Novelty Items sale.
Sales totaled $1,942. GCDC made $746 profit.
We sold over a half dozen Mother’s Day gift baskets, featuring our 23-Ounce Candles.
Some gift baskets are still available at the GCDC office. Consider teacher gifts for the
end of the year.
Don’t forget our Pizza Hut Value Cards, good for a $75 savings. Cards are $8 and may be
purchased at the GCDC office, 31 South Main St., Glassboro.
Stop by the Gloucester County Institute of Technology on Tanyard Road Saturday, June 2,
between noon and 3:00 p.m. to enjoy a “Families On the Move Fun Fest.” Participants will
learn new games and activities, try healthy foods, learn about portion sizes, use video games
to get into shape, and have fun with the Philadelphia Phantoms. This event is presented by
the Gloucester County Department of Health and Senior Services in partnership with the
Gloucester County Cancer Coalition. Call (856)-262-4101 for information.
GCDC won a Promising Practices Award from NJ After 3 for its ClassACT theater program involving
GAPA2 second and third graders. GCDC Executive Director Joan Dillon, Learning Stages Executive
Director and GCDC Board Member Renee Post, Site Coordinator Lynn Shute and GAPA2 Site
Supervisor Jaclynne Oldt will attend a regional workshop at the Somerset Marriott Thursday,
June 28, to discuss ClassACT with other NJ After 3 participants. GCDC partnered with Learning
Stages of Pitman to create ClassACT. NJ After 3 funds ClassACT. GCDC is one of nine Promising
Practices award winners. Some 30 programs submitted applications. ClassACT children performed
four, one-act plays they wrote on March 8 and 9. A second ClassACT session is now underway
with 18 children. The play is Thursday, June 7, at 7 p.m. at the Dorothy L. Bullock School.
A matinee show for Bullock students is Friday, June 8, at 9 a.m.
Registration forms are available at the GCDC office for Camp Horizon 2007, GCDC’s summer
program for children in kindergarten through grade six at the Dorothy L. Bullock School.
Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Camp runs June 25 through August 24. Call 881-3331 for
information. You will find that we are the most reasonably priced camp in our area.
Our fees include all activities, trips, special events, breakfast, lunch and snack!

The Women’s Opportunity Center at the YMCA of Burlington County in Mt. Laurel, has partnered
with the Department of Community Affairs to manage a $150,000 federal grant program that
provides financial assistance to spouses of deployed military personnel (Active Duty, Reserve
